Active Minds

Help support Active Minds during this year's Day of Giving.
Help support Active Minds during this year's Day of Giving. Active Minds Who are we? Active Minds @ SJSU seeks to bridge cultural gaps in receiving mental health, considering the university's uniquely diverse school with its large pool of underrepresented minorities, first-generation college, and low-income students. Historically, people of color have disproportionately higher rates of suicide and lack accessibility to mental health services. The core cause can be attributed to mental health being considered "taboo" in several cultures, deterring many to seek help. Aligning with Active Minds' mission in dismantling mental health stigma, our funding is necessary for our events promoting the Counseling and Psychological Services available in the Wellness Center. Additional missions include building the future generation of mental healthcare leaders within our club and connecting with Bay Area local nonprofits to ensure students have all resources needed. Why are we raising the money? As the Active Minds San Jose State University chapter, we want to represent our beloved school at the national conference in Washington D.C. It will take place in early July, with a comprehensive agenda detailing how we can empower young adults within advocacy, uplift the wellness climate on campus, and build critical leadership skills to prosper as mental health pioneers. In addition, we have the opportunity to band with mental health advocates nationwide, brainstorming innovative ideas to incorporate on-campus. These donations will go towards hotel, traveling, and ticket arrangements. The rest of the proceeds will go to our efforts to increase the Counseling and Psychological Services’ visibility on-campus and dismantling mental health stigmas. Such events include our “Send Silence Packing” event, a monumental remembrance of lives lost to suicide. How can you help? Join us on our mission on tackling mental health stigmas on-campus, especially with the diverse demographics presented at San Jose State University. By making a gift, you are investing in the wellness of aspiring mental health leaders and the future of Silicon Valley. Click the link to donate and please share our page with your network!

Anime Club

Help support the Anime Club during this year's Day of giving!
Help support the Anime Club during this year's Day of giving! SJSU Anime Club Who are we? The Anime Club is a large group of students and alumni with the goal of celebrating Japanese, Korean, and Chinese cultural heritage through the art of animation. We introduce our members to details regarding Anime culture and teach them new things that they may not have known before. In each meeting, we always plan and organize activities relating to the Anime culture for our members to experience for themselves. We try to provide opportunities for people to experience this culture for themselves online and in person, although our in person meetings provide an overall more comprehensive experience. We always prioritize the enjoyment of our members. Our club provides a perfect environment for people of the same interests to mingle and grow closer as a whole. Why are we raising the money? We require funds in order to be able to hold educational events, plan field trips, and invite guest speakers. While we are technically a small scale organization, we do put a great deal of effort into planning and executing activities, which encourage the expansion of our member’s knowledge of Anime culture. For the past two years, we were limited by the pandemic and the quarantine that forced all of our meetings to take place online. As such, our activities were limited and connections with our club members had been strictly virtual. Coming back from the online setting, we found that the club had shrunk from its previous size. With our current limited funding, we have been keeping the costs of our activities to a minimum. However, with an expansion of our budget, we plan to focus our activities on more ambitious projects that immerse our members deeper into the culture of Anime. Some of our potential projects include trips to Anime conventions, learning more about Japanese culture through samples of food and visits of historical sites. Depending on the amount of donations we might be able to organize a trip to Japan, the origin of Anime related culture. How can you help? If you are interested in helping the Anime Club, there are a few ways you can help: You can donate to this crowdfunding website to help fund our activities. You can provide exposure for our campaign and our club through social media. You can tell friends, family, and alumni about the club and see if they might be willing to donate. All of the donations you provide us will go right back into the club and its activities.

Mock Trial
By SJSU Mock Trial
Help support SJSU Mock Trial during this year's Day of Giving.
Help support SJSU Mock Trial during this year's Day of Giving. SJSU Mock Trial Who are we? We are San Jose State University’s Mock Trial Team. Our recognized student organization is registered under the national organization of the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), where undergraduate students around the nation get a chance to learn, practice, and exercise public speaking, legal reasoning, critical thinking, teamwork, and other skills related to the legal field. Going on its fourth year, Mock Trial SJSU is at its highest membership and student interest this 2022 season. Our diverse team is composed of 25 students led by our board of directors who are all women of color in pre-law. Mock Trial SJSU’s goals within this school year are to travel and compete against other universities in AMTA tournaments, as well as establish our program as a resource for pre-law students in San Jose State University. Why are we raising the money? As a student organization, the funding and resources for our program has been limited. Additionally, as the program expands throughout the years, more students are interested in traveling, competing and learning about the legal system. We are raising money to fund our resources and competitions. The funds would be used for traveling expenses of students, tournament fees, printing out handouts and materials, and any other resources for pre-law students. How can you help? As a donor, you can help by donating any amount of money to our student organization. We would also appreciate it if you could spread the word about SJSU Mock Trial, our purpose, and members. Feel free to contact us and follow our social media!

Men's Lacrosse at SJSU
By Men's Lacrosse at SJSU
Help support Men's Lacrosse at SJSU during this year's Day of Giving.
Help support Men's Lacrosse at SJSU during this year's Day of Giving. Men's Lacrosse at SJSU Who are we? We are the Men’s Lacrosse team at SJSU, a student-run organization and sports team that has been operating on campus for over 35 years. While we, of course, like to win games and attend championships, our primary goal is to help prepare young men to lead meaningful and impactful post-collegiate lives by sharpening invaluable life skills such as leadership and mental toughness. Moreover, it's an experience that forges friendships and irreplaceable memories that last a lifetime. Why are we raising the money? We have always prided ourselves on the fact that our program is a no-experience necessary one, and that we will train and provide guidance to students regardless of their skill level. However because of the cost of equipment, coaching, medical support, travel, and more, lacrosse is an expensive sport. For over 35 years, our team has been primarily funded by student dues. University support only accounts for 10% of our program funds. As a result, our dues have been high barrier to entry for new or underprivileged students. For this reason, we are looking to fund an endowment for the lacrosse program, with the goal of lowering the financial burden on our players. Specifically, this will aid in paying operational, competitive, or financial needs the club may incur in its’ pursuit to practice, compete, recruit, participate in, or otherwise help grow the sport of lacrosse and the Club at large. How can you help? For our endowment, we’re looking to raise $50,000 as the principle, and to that end any amount is greatly appreciated.
