Help Support Moss Landing Marine Laboratories during this Day of Giving Moss Landing Marine Labs Who are we? Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML) administers the Master of Science in marine science program for San Jose State University and is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in both marine science education and research. An outfitted marine operations department, active research diving program and state of the art equipment allow for cutting edge research in a wide variety of disciplines including: marine ecology; the biology of marine plants, invertebrates, fishes, turtles, birds and mammals; oceanography and marine geology; chemistry and biogeochemistry. MLML is known for a hands-on, field-oriented approach which places our students, faculty, researchers and staff at the frontiers of marine science worldwide where discoveries are being made. MLML provides the skills and training so students become successful scientists, teachers and resource managers serving societal needs involving marine issues. The lab is situated within a few hundred meters of the Monterey Submarine Canyon, the largest on the west coast of North America, near the Elkhorn Slough, the largest tract of tidal salt marsh in California outside of San Francisco Bay, and an important site for shorebirds and fishes. To the north and south are sand dunes, sandy beaches, and extensive kelp forest habitats along the rocky shoreline. Some of the most productive kelp forests and intertidal areas can be found in this region. How can you help? We are asking for support to fund student scholarships that will enable our young marine pioneers to perform their research. Doing science is expensive, whether it is going on a boat, diving, or acquiring reagents or performing any field- and lab-oriented study. MLML students are often challenged by research-related expenses or last minute unexpected costs and your contribution can make an enormous difference to their path to success.

Interdisciplinary Science Building Equipment Fund
By The College of Science
Help support the Interdisciplinary Science Building Equipment Fund during this year's Day of Giving!
Help support the Interdisciplinary Science Building Equipment Fund during this year's Day of Giving! The College of Science Who are we? In the SJSU College of Science, we train a diverse group of scientists for the Silicon Valley workforce, as well as top graduate, medical and pharmacy schools. Our Interdisciplinary Science Building slated to open in summer 2023 will have state of the art laboratories in which faculty and students will collaborate to conduct cutting edge biomedical research. Chemistry, Biology and Bioinformatics student researchers will increase the pace of research in critical areas, exploring new ways to understand and treat heart disease, neurological disorders, cancers and infectious diseases. The new building will give us the opportunity to create synergistic common research spaces with state of the art equipment to support our students as they address critical questions in biomedicine. The College of Science is known for providing high quality hands-on research experiences in biomedical research that set our students up to succeed in their careers. These are transformational opportunities that allow students to work at the frontiers of their fields, making critical contributions to understanding diseases and disorders that impact our community. Why are we raising money? We are raising money to support the purchase of cutting edge equipment for our common research spaces, to allow students to take their research to the next level. Equipment like PCR machines, gel documentation systems and -80C freezers are critical to this work, and can be shared by many groups to move this work forward. Even a small contribution can make a huge difference and propel biomedical discoveries and our students' careers. How can you help? You can support College of Science student research by: Donate to this crowdfunding campaign! Every little bit helps and gives students more opportunity. Help us spread the word by sharing this crowdfunding campaign on your social media platforms and through email! We will be sending a special thank you to all of you on our social media platforms at the end of the crowdfunding event. We will also post to our crowdfunding page with updates on student progress.

Why are we raising money? We are raising money to support students so that they can participate in transformational research traineeships, regardless of their financial status. This allows us to engage a more diverse group of students, including students from minoritized groups, first-generation college students and women, who are frequently underrepresented in the sciences. Many of these students would otherwise need to sacrifice these career-building opportunities to take other jobs to support themselves or their families. Even a small contribution can make a huge difference to a student, who could become a future leader in science and medicine. How can you help? Computational Student Research Support
By College of Science
Help support Computational Student Research Support during this year's Day of Giving.
Help support Computational Student Research Support during this year's Day of Giving. College of Science Who are we? In the SJSU College of Science, we use computational approaches to address a large array of global challenges, including understanding climate change, better addressing forest fires, addressing gerrymandering and understanding and preparing for earthquakes. Through hands-on partnerships between students and faculty, we use this broad array of computational approaches to gain critical insights into projects as diverse as understanding how small mammals called pika are impacted by climate change to discovering how to solve problems in quantum computing. The College of Science is known for providing high-quality hands-on research experiences with these computational approaches to solve our most challenging problems, which set our students up to succeed in their careers. These are transformational opportunities that allow students to work at the frontiers of their fields, making critical contributions that impact our community. Why are we raising money? We are raising money to support students so that they can participate in these transformational research traineeships, regardless of their family’s financial status. This allows us to engage a more diverse group of students, including students from minoritized groups, first generation college students and women, who are frequently underrepresented in the sciences. Many of these students would otherwise need to sacrifice these career-building opportunities to take minimum-wage jobs to support themselves or their families. Even a small contribution can make a huge difference to a student, who could become a future scientific leader. How can you help?
