Who are we?
In the SJSU College of Science, we train a diverse group of scientists for the Silicon Valley workforce, as well as top graduate, medical and pharmacy schools. Our Interdisciplinary Science Building slated to open in summer 2023 will have state-of-the-art laboratories in which faculty and students will collaborate to conduct cutting-edge biomedical research. Chemistry, Biology and Bioinformatics student researchers will increase the pace of research in critical areas, exploring new ways to understand and treat heart disease, neurological disorders, cancers and infectious diseases.
The College of Science is known for providing high quality hands-on research experiences in biomedical research that set our students up to succeed in their careers. These are transformational opportunities that allow students to work at the frontiers of their fields, making critical contributions to understanding diseases and disorders that impact our community.
Why are we raising money?
We are raising money to support students so that they can participate in transformational research traineeships, regardless of their financial status. This allows us to engage a more diverse group of students, including students from minoritized groups, first-generation college students and women, who are frequently underrepresented in the sciences. Many of these students would otherwise need to sacrifice these career-building opportunities to take other jobs to support themselves or their families. Even a small contribution can make a huge difference to a student, who could become a future leader in science and medicine.
