The team has carried that momentum into the 2022 season, consistently ranked among the top 15 teams in the nation. With the University’s Day of Giving, the Men’s Water Polo Team is seeking your help to support a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel abroad as a team to Budapest, Hungary! The 10-day training trip will involve competitive matches against prestigious water polo clubs of Honved and OSC. The Spartans will also have dual training with senior and junior teams as well as individual clinics with former Hungarian National Team players. It will also be a homecoming for five players competing for the Spartans who hail from Hungary. Spartan Athletics The San José State Women’s Swimming & Diving program continues to impress both academically and in the pool as it heads down the stretch of the 2022-23 season. Under the direction of head coach Sage Hopkins in his 17th season, the Spartans have leveled multiple pool records in the first half of the season and have dual victories over Pacific and Pepperdine. The team has also been honored as a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in 19 consecutive semesters! Help support Women's Tennis during this year's Day of Giving Spartan Athletics The San José State Women’s Tennis program has enjoyed great success with three conference championships in the last decade, including the 2021 Mountain West Championship! Now the team and head coach Chad Skorupka are seeking support to fund a permanent display for the championship hardware inside the Women’s Tennis Clubhouse. “Our current players and the program’s alumni are incredibly proud of these achievements,” Skorupka says. “We want to show our fans and recruits who enter our building that Spartan tennis is a championship-level contender. Displaying these trophies provides a constant reminder of what this program aims to achieve every year” Funds raised on the Day of Giving will go directly to the women’s tennis team to fund a trophy display case which will sit front-and-center in the entryway to the clubhouse on South Campus. The team has worked incredibly hard to maintain the success from a year ago when it won 19 matches, and has proven that it is a consistent contender for conference championships. For their hard work and dedication to success in competition and in academics, head coach Trent Kersten is raising money for an end-of-season gift for all of the players. “Our student-athletes work incredibly hard not only athletically, but academically and being great ambassadors for San José State University,” Kersten said. Help support the Women's Water Polo team during this year's Day of Giving Spartan Athletics The San José State Women’s Water Polo team achieved the top team cumulative grade-point average in the country with a 3.74, as recognized by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). Pomona Pitzer and Stanford tied for second at 3.72. Individually, a program-record 16 Spartans were recognized as being champions in the classroom by being named to the ACWPC All-Academic teams. To reward this tremendous success and incentivize future Spartan to achieve excellence in academia, the Women’s Water Polo team is raising money for Alston Awards - a comprehensive program allowing student-athletes to earn education-related financial payments based on academic success and participation in career development activities.
