Phi Alpha Theta

Who are we?

Since 1995 Phi Alpha Theta history honor society club at San Jose State University has been serving to promote fellowship and community among history students and faculty. We seek to bring students, teachers, and writers together for intellectual and social exchanges which promote and assist historical research and publication by our members in a variety of ways.

Why are we raising the money?

The History Club at San Jose State University has been pivotal in ensuring history students are acknowledged and commemorated for their achievements. We are hoping that after the pandemic the history club can continue to carry our legacy of sending well deserved students to the Annual Phi Alpha Theta Conference in Spring to represent San Jose State University. With additional support we will be able to return to a sense of normalcy by hosting special speakers series and social events that highlight our legacy. We will hold the financial means to continue directing historical conferences of our own at the university like we once did. Each year in May the history department and club has had a tradition of honoring undergraduate and graduate students receiving degrees in history and social science teacher preparation. Since the pandemic hit in 2020 it has left a devastating impact on our ability to hold this heartfelt intimate community event for our students and families to celebrate the amazing accomplishments they have made. This great occasion offers an opportunity for family, friends, and those they hold close to their heart to come together and bond over the celebration of all their student’s achievements with faculty.   

How can you help?

We need your help in making the 23th Annual Phi Alpha Theta History Club Department Graduation Ceremony a memorable celebration for the Class of 2023 history students that have spent half of their college experience online due to the pandemic. Please consider giving today to help us raise funds to support our ongoing efforts to provide history students with the opportunity to be commemorated in the intimate department held ceremony, participate in national conferences representing San Jose State University, and hold the capability to pursue research projects with faculty! Fund a history student that represents us at the national conference each year!
