Who are we?
We are a group of faculty in San Jose State University’s (SJSU) Lucas College and Graduate School of Business seeking to play our part in bringing gender equality in the world. We host events such as the ‘Women in Leadership League Conference’ (WILL) to celebrate International Women’s Day. (According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women in 2022 still earn an average of 17% less than male counterparts. We are a long way from achieving gender equality).
Our efforts are grassroots and we work with underrepresented minority, and first generation students to prepare them for inequity in the workplace. SJSU’s college of business brings together top Silicon Valley leaders, alumni, and students from all disciplines to talk about equity gap issues.
The day includes a keynote speaker panel discussion and breakout group discussions, providing participants with inspirational experiences as well as practical advice and strategies from successful leaders. Students get to hear about career and life journeys and personal perspectives on leadership. We seek to create a platform for meaningful conversations with industry mentors who can inspire our students to aim high.
What is our goal?
Our goal is to improve gender equality and empower our students to be better prepared as they enter the workforce.
Why are we raising money?
We are raising $5,000 in support of gender equity programs such as the Women in Leadership League Conference. Your donations will help us put together this annual conference and reach our goal to expand with this funding and build year round programs.
How can you help?
You can help us with our campaign in two ways:
Supports 2 students as they connect with thought leaders to learn new ideas and best practices
Supports 6 students as they work to increase their leadership capacity and workplace preparedness
Supports 6 students in learning how they to use effective communication skills on their way to career success
