Who are we?
SJSU International House is home to 68 U.S. and international students attending San Jose State university. Residents come from approximately 25 countries worldwide each semester, and study in a wide variety of majors. At I-House, residents make friends from the U.S. and around the world while living in a safe and supportive environment where they participate in Regional Dinners, Cross-Cultural Workshops, I-House Student Government, Lawn Games, intramural competitions and much more.
Why are we raising money?
As home away from home for residents, the I-House facility gets a lot of use. Having comfortable furniture is key to providing spaces where residents can gather, celebrate, and relax together. Help us keep the I-House updated and comfortable.
How can you help?
Donations by alumni and friends of I-House helps shift the financial burden away from room and board paid by residents, supports the upkeep of our facility, and provides a living, learning space for residents. In any amount, your support helps. Please support I-House by making a joyous donation.
A $50 contribution could cover the cost of one weekly Tuesday evening Coffee Night for I-House residents and SJSU students who visit I-House to relax and meet each other. A recurring donation of $50/month could cover nearly a full semester of Coffee Nights. Imagine providing munchies for dozens of students from around the world who come together socially at I-House on a weekly basis. A $50 contribution could also cover the cost of ONE cushion for a Dining Room chair.
A $100 contribution could cover the cost of 2 residents to start out the semester participating in the annual I-House resident bus trip to San Francisco in the Fall semester or Monterey/Carmel in the Spring semester. A recurring donation of $100/month could cover the cost of 30 residents participating in one of these memorable start-of-the-semester kick-off bus trips.
Contributions by you and 19 other people at the $250 level could cover costs to host the Internationally-Inspired Pancake Breakfast for one semester. Making a $250/month recurring donation means that one contributor alone could cover most of the costs of Internationally-Inspired Pancake Breakfast for one semester. A recurring donation at this level could also cover the cost to purchase one leather couch that seats three people.
A $500 contribution can be applied towards purchase of the latest tech items allowing I-House to offer state-of-the-art equipment for resident use. A recurring donation of $500/month covers the cost of three matching leather sofas for the TV room. And while it may not be glamorous, one donor making a recurring donation of $500/month could nearly cover the cost of the annual property tax paid by I-House.
Your $1,000 donation could help I-House hire a resident to work as a student assistant in the role of Receptionist, Computer Aide, or Coffee Night Aide. A recurring donation at this level could cover the cost of several high-quality pieces of furniture for the Living Room.
With a $5,000 donation 7 bedrooms could be re-carpeted -- or, for a student who could not otherwise afford to live at I-House, it could open the door to an opportunity to be a resident. A recurring donation of $5,000/month could pay for re-carpeting and re-painting all of the bedrooms. Alternatively, recurring monthly donations of $5,000 could be used to incentivize 20 new residents to apply to live at I-House.
At the $10,000 contribution level, multiple scholarships could be made available to current and prospective residents, which broadens the appeal of I-House living to students from diverse backgrounds. $10,000 monthly recurring donations by one or more donors would provide a very significant contribution to keep the I-House facility in top-notch condition, and would allow I-House to stand-out among housing choices for prospective residents.
