SJSU Kinesiology

Who are we?

The Department of Kinesiology is one of the largest majors at San José State University. Kinesiology, broadly defined is the study of human body movement, which encompasses the biophysical, behavior and sociocultural aspects. With roughly 900 undergraduate students and 40 faculty members the department is a leader in research, education and practice regarding human movement. Undergraduate students are leaders and have served as important research assistants on faculty-led research projects, as well as conducting their own original research. It is the department’s belief that having undergraduates immersed in research will provide them with the knowledge, practice and networks to be successful health advocates in their future professions. 

Why are we raising money?

The Department of Kinesiology is raising money to help support student travel to academic conferences, workshops and trainings. Students attending academic conferences have the opportunity to learn, interact and network with other researchers and professionals that will ultimately help them develop their own professional journeys. With this ask, we are specifically hoping to supplement travel costs in registration fees, flight costs, accommodation, and per diem expenses (e.g., incidentals, meals).

The impact of being able to attend academic conferences for students will be monumental as they apply for graduate schools, develop relationships, and grow as scholars!
