Who are we?

Filipino Alumni Network (FAN) was established in the Summer of 2021 with the amazing dedication of our founding board. We are an organization that is focused on career development, cultural awareness, and connection with our Filipinx Spartan community and allies alike.

Since our establishment in Summer of 2021, FAN has been able to hit the ground running.

Earlier this Spring, FAN hosted its official “Launch Event” where we networked and broke bread, in-person, with over 40 different alumni in attendance at San Pedro Square here in Downtown San Jose.

Next we held our “Power in the Pipeline” virtual panel where we invited other Filipinx alumni associations from across California to speak with us about their own journeys and any advice they have for us as we begin this work as a new alumni network.

And even most recently, we kicked off this October by celebrating Filipino American History Month with our very first virtual career panel titled “Filipinos in Leadership”. We were fortunate to be joined by over 90 registrants in the hopes of learning how to navigate the workplace as a Filipinx professional.

Now while this past year has already been so much fun, we definitely don’t want to stop here. Building and growing a legacy like this is truly going to be an intergenerational effort, and with that, we need your help.

Why are we raising the money?

This year, FAN hopes to advance the success and pipeline of our Filipinx community by creating our very own FAN Scholarship Fund, available to both current and rising SJSU students in need.

Here in Santa Clara County alone, Filipinxs make up nearly 100 thousand residents of our County’s population. In 2021, South Bay based news outlet, San Jose Spotlight, published an article that highlighted how 1 in every 5 Filipinx students dropped out of High School is Santa Clara County during the pandemic. This alarming statistic, coupled with the rising costs of higher education, was the final straw. Our community was hurting, and we had to do something.
