Dear I-House alumni and friends worldwide,

You have participated in the crowdfunding campaign to support International House and we owe you an enormous amount of gratitude.  From small contributions to large ones, from one-time contributions to recurring, your involvement has been so heartwarming to see.  Special thanks again to Bob Aron for working so hard to develop the crowdfunding video, and who, with Yvette Young, have contributed generously to I-House.  Thank you to each contributor for your generosity!!

The campaign has been left open for a few extra days for anyone who would still like to contribute.  It's been a successful campaign and will help us meet some of our student support and operational needs as the House re-opens in August.    You may enjoy viewing Roommate Photo Boards from 1980 to 2019 as a reminder of the relationships held by residents and alumni around the world.

Your devoted fan,

Leann

We did it!

June 21, 2021
Hi everyone,

Thank you so very much for contributing to the I-House crowdfunding campaign and helping us reach our (initial) goal of 75 donors!

It's so exciting to have alumni from around the world and from each decade of I-House as well as local community members and friends continue to provide financial support and words of caring and encouragement.  If you haven't already done so, please read the e-mail sent out on Sunday, June 20th; I believe you'll appreciate reading many heartfelt testimonials from former residents, and you can see the beautiful artwork of an I-House alumna.

I am still hoping that we will far exceed our goal in the remaining 5 days of the campaign so I'd appreciate it if you would encourage your friends to contribute.  Spread the word.  Make a post on your social media page.

With great appreciation for you,

Leann Cherkasky Makhni,
Director

We're getting close!

Wow, wow!! Thank you to each of you who has contributed to the crowdfunding campaign for bringing to life the quote by Charles Dickens that "A very little key will open a very heavy door."  Your contribution as part of the bigger whole makes a tremendous impact on I-House and opportunities for future residents.

With nearly two weeks left in the campaign and a strong foundation built by you, I continue to be hopeful that we will bypass our initial goal of 75 donors.  As Cyrille Morelle (I-House, Fall and Spring '96) wrote, "You are not raising money - politicians are raising money - you are raising hope..."

Thank you so much for raising hope!  We are well on our way to our goal and look forward to continued support from alumni and friends of I-House.

With appreciation,

Leann

We're already halfway there!

June 08, 2021
Dear friends and supporters,

Thank you VERY much for supporting International House through the Spring 2021 Crowdfunding campaign.  I am excited each time I look at the donor list and see the wonderful people who have taken the initiative and made a financial commitment to support I-House.  Your leadership and engagement are so important to I-House and I really appreciate you.

We have passed the halfway mark of our initial goal of 75 donors.  I say "initial" because with thousands of alumni and community members who are friends of I-House, I am hoping we can far surpass 75 donors.  Please encourage your I-House friends to contribute.  One-time donations are helpful and recurring donations can be counted on for a long period of time.

We are receiving many applications from students who would like to live at I-House.  We cannot accept everyone and aren't sure if everyone we do accept will be able to get visas and vaccinations, but we see a lot of excitement and hope in the resident applications.  While we are preparing for the arrival of new residents, the I-House exterior is being painted -- which means that we can finally change the lettering on the front of the building!!  By mid-August, I expect that the new lettering "SJSU International House" will be installed.

I have just finished reading an application written by a prospective resident who "...considers himself very blessed to be... part of the Spartan Family, and hopefully a resident of the International House."

Please help us keep the energy and commitment going by sharing our page with anyone who might be interested in donating. Once again, thank you to each of you who has already contributed!

Appreciatively,

Leann Cherkasky Makhni,
Director
Levels
Choose a giving level

$50

Contributor

A $50 contribution could cover the cost of one weekly Tuesday evening Coffee Night for I-House residents and SJSU students who visit I-House to relax and meet each other. .................................................................... A recurring donation of $50/month could cover nearly a full semester of Coffee Nights. Imagine providing munchies for dozens of students from around the world who come together socially at I-House on a weekly basis.

$100

Cultural Attache

A $100 contribution could cover the cost of 2 residents to start out the semester participating in the annual I-House resident bus trip to San Francisco in the Fall semester or Monterey/Carmel in the Spring semester. .................................................................... A recurring donation of $100/month could cover the cost of 30 residents participating in one of these memorable start-of-the-semester kick-off bus trips.

$250

Diplomat

Contributions by you and 14 other people at the $250 level could cover costs to host the internationally-inspired Pancake Breakfast for one semester. .................................................................... Making a $250/month recurring donation means that one contributor alone could cover most of the costs of Internationally-Inspired Pancake Breakfast for one semester.

$500

Foreign Minister

A $500 contribution can be applied towards the purchase of the latest tech items allowing I-House to offer state-of-the-art equipment for resident use. .................................................................... And while it may not be glamorous, one donor making a recurring donation of $500/month could nearly cover the cost of the annual property tax paid by I-House.

$1,000

Vice Consul

Your $1,000 donation could help I-House hire a resident to work as a student assistant in the role of Receptionist, Office Aide, Computer Aide, Flag Aide, Kitchen Aide, Maintenance Aide, or Coffee Night Aide. .................................................................... A recurring $1,000/month donation could cover student assistant work at I-House by 4 residents for one semester.

$5,000

Consul General

With a $5,000 donation 7 bedrooms can be re-carpeted -- or, for a student who could not otherwise afford to live at I-House, it could open the door to an opportunity to be a resident. .................................................................... A recurring donation of $5,000/month could pay for re-carpeting and re-painting all of the bedrooms. Alternatively, recurring monthly donations of $5,000 could be used to incentivize 20 new residents to apply to live at I-House.

$10,000

Honorary Consul Officers

At the $10,000 contribution level, multiple scholarships could be made available to current and prospective residents, which broadens the appeal of I-House living to students from diverse backgrounds. .................................................................... $10,000 monthly recurring donations by one or more donors could provide a very significant contribution to keep the I-House facility in top-notch condition, and could allow I-House to stand-out among housing choices for prospective residents.
