The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) at San Jose State University is the student chapter of the nationally recognized ASHA- American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association. ASHA accredits our program here at SJSU and certifies student clinicians as future Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP’s) or Audiologists (AuD’s). Through community outreach, volunteer participation and commitment to serving the public, NSSLHA raises awareness for all communication disorders and individuals with disabilities. We also serve as a platform for student advocacy by keeping students within our program informed on important news from the department, upcoming events, opportunities for growth and ASHA logistics.
NSSLHA’s campaign aims to send at least 7 students to the annual California Speech-Language & Hearing Association (CSHA) convention in Anaheim, CA. It’s where 3,000 SLPs, SLPAs, AuDs, students and other professionals gather to share expertise, learn and connect. Students will engage in activities that contribute to their professional development. These include:
Seminars discussing the newest technology, therapy approaches and research findings
Opportunity to participate in hands-on labs to apply learned skills
Gain knowledge on: cultural and linguistic diversity, Language and literacy, Professional issues, Special populations, Swallowing disorders, and much more!
Students will gain a better understanding of their field and where they fit into it. For the first time ever, they only need to worry about saving money for food because NSSLHA is covering travel and lodging expenses as well as convention fees. The CSHA convention is our way of giving back to our members by offering them an opportunity to connect with their future field and refine their careers.
A gift at this level will go towards supporting students to go to CSHA.
A gift at this level is half way to fully supporting a student member!
You have fully funded a CD&S student to go to CSHA. Thank you!
